LUKE RANKIN has signed a new contract with Alloa off the back of a hugely successful loan spell with East Stirlingshire.

The youngster hit the ground running at East Stirling, scoring 23 goals and providing seven assists as he picked up the club's Player of the Year.

Rankin's new contract was officially announced by Alloa, who stated: "Luke Rankin was East Stirlingshire's Player of the Year after 23 goals and seven assists while on loan at the Lowland League side.

"The magnificent return included two hat tricks against Edinburgh Uni and Hearts B and a four goal haul against Celtic B.

"He's back at Alloa next season."

Speaking to Advertiser Sport, Andy Graham was delighted with Rankin's performance at East Stirling and was thrilled to snap him up again for next season.

"That was always the plan for Luke," Graham said. "I was always knew that Luke would be a success in a loan spell.

"I highlighted that to [East Stirling Manager] Pat [Scullion] when he phoned me and asked at the time when I was still a player.

"I said it's a no-brainer, I think he'll be a real success and this loan spell hasn't surprised me with all the goals that he's scored.

"I think it's great for him to learn the other side of the game - not just scoring goals but the physical side of things, holding the ball up and bringing others into play.

"His loan spell has been great for him. He hit the headlines when he scored seven goals over a couple of games but I was well aware of how well he was doing before that.

"That wasn't the reason that I was going to get him to sign a new contract, it was always going to be the case and I'm delighted that he's another one who has signed on.

"Hopefully he continues to develop next season and can try and break through into the team."
