ALLOA ATHLETIC’S pre-season has started to take shape with the announcement they will play Greenock Morton in a July friendly.

The news broke from Morton’s social media, which confirmed their three pre-season fixtures at the end of June and start of July.

Their pre-season will include a friendly triple header, with Alloa the second team on the list, pencilled in for a midweek fixture on Tuesday, July 2.

The Wasps will travel to Cappielow to take on the Championship side, with Morton also set to take on Queen of the South and Annan.

Alloa previously faced Greenock Morton last summer during the pre-season friendlies – the Wasps' Morgyn Neill scoring the only goal of the game.

However, the Wasps last travelled to Cappielow in September for the rescheduled SPFL Trust Trophy tie between Alloa and Rangers B, an eventual 4-1 defeat for Brian Rice’s men.

Alloa’s pre-season fixtures will followed by the return of competitive action, with opponents to be revealed towards the end of this month.

The draw for the Premier Sports Cup will take place next Wednesday, May 29 and will revealed the teams in Alloa’s group.

The Wasps will be looking to progress out of the group stage after a disappointing campaign last season saw them finish bottom after a solitary win over Stenhousemuir.

The League Cup is expected to start at the end of the pre-season friendlies, with the middle of July earmarked for a start date.
