Bayside 2, Alloa Women 3
A BAILEY Black brace ensured Alloa made it three in three with a hard-fought win over Bayside Women.
The Wasps continued their unstoppable League Cup campaign away to Bayside for their penultimate game in the competition.
Alloa captain Teri-Louise Deegan opened scoring for her side, scoring from the spot after an Alloa player was fouled in the box.
The Wasps took a deserved one goal lead into the break, but the hosts quickly responded, pegging Alloa back to 1-1.
The Women showed great character and fight to get back ahead, with Black scoring back to back goals to restore their lead.
Bayside had one last goal in them, bring things to 3-2 in the closing moments of the game – the Wasps digging deep to hold onto their lead.
“It’s a good feeling,” manager Allan Milne said. “It’s good for the girls to keep the unbeaten run going and keep their confidence up.
“The performance wasn’t up to standards but we had about nine or 10 players missing on Sunday so we were down to the bare bones.
“We only had 13 players so the fact they came out of that unhandled and still managed to get the three points with their fight and determination, I was pleased with.
“We should’ve been a bit better on the ball and controlled the game a bit more, been a little more clinical in front of goal.
“But again, having only 13 players and with a few key players, we’ll take the win and run with it.”
Alloa now stand unbeaten in their League Cup campaign and also their wider season, having beaten Murieston in the Scottish Cup as well.
It has been a perfect start to the season for Milne and his side, with the gaffer hailing the character in his players.
He went on: “There’s a real fight, determination and desire in them to make sure they don’t lose games.
“That was something we were missing last year but from pre-season and coming into the League Cup games, they’ve got a real desire in them.
“We noticed it yesterday – they went 1-1 yet they never stopped, they made sure they kept going to the final whistle to make sure they won the game.
“That’s something we’ve lacked since I came in the door but this season it’s clicked and everyone single one of them has grit and determination to win the game.
“It’s brilliant to see – they’ve got a never stop attitude and that, for me, is a key part of how I want my teams to play.”
Alloa Women now turn their attention to the League, which starts this Sunday – their first fixture coming against Glasgow Girls Academy Seniors.
Fixture details are still to be set for their final League Cup match against Dunfermline, managed by former Wasps gaffer Charles Dignan.
For now, Milne hopes the team carries their confidence and fight into the league, insisting his side fear no one.
He added: “In the league, we just have to keep playing the way we’re playing and continuing what we’re doing.
“There’s nobody the team should fear going forward in this league campaign. There will be teams that are a good test for us but I do think we have enough ability to beat them and move forward with that.
“They’re flying high at the moment and they don’t fear anybody, they’ll stand toe to toe with anybody to fight and get that win.”
