PROPOSALS for a new school campus in Tullibody will go before councillors next week.

They will be asked to approve a formal consultation on the development of a Tullibody South Campus, which will include a newly-rebuilt Abercromby Primary School, relocation of St Bernadette's Primary School, as well as a new nursery and locality hub.

A report will be put to elected members during a special meeting of Clackmannanshire Council on Thursday, February 4.

It details that public opinion is being sought on where to locate the new campus, with two options to choose from.

Option A: The relocation of St Bernadette's RC Primary School to a new Tullibody South Campus located within the grounds of the present Abercromby.

Option B: The relocation of Abercromby and St Bernadette's to a new campus, located within the grounds of the present civic centre.

It is said the educational benefits derived from the campus "would be accrued irrespective of whether option A or option B were selected".

Plans for a purpose-built Abercromby were first discussed in 2014; issues were raised about the condition of the current building and the fact that it is operating above capacity.

Last year, an informal consultation was launched looking at three options, all which were based on the public park.

Following this - and a community campaign to safeguard the facility - new proposals are coming before the council.

The paper outlines: "The analysis of the informal consultation has led to the proposal to develop a Tullibody South Campus incorporating Abercromby Primary School, St Bernadette’s RC Primary School, a nursery and a locality hub.

"The hub will co-locate and integrate public services onto one site helping to deliver more effective outcomes for local people and communities.

"The distinctive identity and values of St. Bernadette's RC Primary would be maintained within the proposed campus."

Under option A, the campus would be built within the grounds of the existing Abercromby, with teaching continuing in the current buildings.

Once complete, Abercromby and St Bernadette's would move into the new campus and the current buildings would be demolished.

Under option B, the campus would be built within the grounds of the civic centre and the schools would move once the development was complete.

As reported in the Advertiser earlier this week, the county is now also set to receive a share of £230 million to rebuild Abercromby as part of the Scottish Government's ‘Schools for the Future’ programme.
