A WEE COUNTY man has been handed further prison time after attacking a fellow inmate with a makeshift weapon.

Aaron Bridges, formerly, of Tullibody, has been given extra time behind bars, after being sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday.

He was handed an additional four years in custody, with an extended monitoring period to be in place after his release.

The 26-year-old slashed Robbie Paton in HMP Addiewell leaving him with a nasty eight-inch facial wound.

Bridges used a makeshift weapon of a piece of plastic cutlery with razors embedded into the handle.

The accused had previously admitted, at a hearing in Edinburgh, to assaulting Paton to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and to the danger of his life.

The assault occurred on November 12, 2021, the court heard.

Bridges was already serving a seven-year sentence that was imposed in 2019 for stabbing a neighbour and another knife attack on a complete stranger, both in Sauchie.

On Monday this week, a judge at the High Court in Glasgow added another four years to the jail term.

Lord Fairley noted his record for violence and that he had continued to offend even behind bars.

The judge told Bridges: "I am satisfied that the normal period of licence would not be adequate to protect the public.

"I will impose a further extended sentence."

In the 2019 case, Bridges was told he would be monitored for three years on his release.

Lord Fairley added another two years meaning Bridges will now be supervised for five years when he is freed.

Bridges previously attacked two people with a knife at Schaw Court in Sauchie.

He left one man, his neighbour, with stab wounds to his leg and chest. He was taken to hospital with a collapsed lung.

In total, he sustained eight knife wounds and prosecutors said that, according to the doctor who treated him, the attack would have been fatal had it not been for medical care.

In the other attack, Bridges assaulted a complete stranger in the street following a row.

He stabbed the man in the back before fleeing.

Lady Carmichael imposed a prison term of seven years, reduced from 10 and a half years due to his guilty plea.
